1st stage of post weight loss surgery diet – bariatric smoothies
It can be difficult in the very early days after weight loss surgery (when following the 1st stage of post-op eating called FLUIDS) to find a drink with variety and appeal. Home-made smoothies or meals-in-a-glass may well be the answer.
Many, if made without additional sugar, prove nutritious and easily digestible.
Here are 6 good basic recipes for bariatric smoothies to get you started (each serves 1-2):
Strawberry and Kiwi: Process 3 large strawberries with 1 peeled and chopped kiwi fruit, 1 small sliced banana and 125 ml skimmed milk.
Summer Berry and Banana: Process 75g frozen summer berry fruits with 1 small sliced banana and 150 ml skimmed milk.
Banana and Cinnamon: Process 1 small sliced banana with 150 ml skimmed milk, 125g pot low-fat yogurt and a pinch ground cinnamon.
Beetroot, Pomegranate and Orange: Process 100 ml pomegranate juice with 100 ml orange juice and 1 cooked beetroot.
Blueberry, Red Grape and Banana: Process 1 small sliced banana with 100 ml red grape juice, 40g blueberries and 40g strawberries.
Mango and Cottage Cheese: Process 200 ml soya milk (or skimmed milk) with 1-2 teaspoons Splenda granulated sweetener, 3 tablespoons low-fat cottage cheese and 75g frozen mango chunks.
