Gastric band surgery, often referred to as laparoscopic adjustable gastric banding, involves placing a silicone band around the upper part of the stomach and filling it with saline.
The duodenal switch (DS) procedure involves a sleeve gastrectomy in combination with surgical bypass of the majority of the small intestine.
The BoB procedure is used to treat weight regain after failed gastric bypass. It involves placing a conventional gastric band around the mid-portion of the over-stretched stomach pouch. This shrinks its capacity and slows down the rate at which it empties.
The intragastric balloon is considered to be a more minor procedure, as it is not as invasive and can be carried out under sedation.
